The Infinity Design Carbon Fibre Intake System for the BMW E60 M5 was developed with one critical priority above all else - intake temperatures. While the majority of aftermarket intakes for the S85 are open designs that draw hot engine bay air, Infinity Design has engineered a fully sealed solution that keeps intake temperatures at their absolute lowest at all times.
Why Intake Temperatures Matter More Than You Think
Open intake designs create a two-tier negative effect that is often overlooked:

Reduced air density
- Hotter engine bay air contains less oxygen, directly reducing power output

ECU timing reduction
- The intake air temperature sensor inside the MAF detects elevated temperatures, triggering the ECU's compensation tables to reduce ignition timing - significantly impacting both power output and throttle response
This second effect is rarely captured on dyno tests of open intakes, as most tests are performed with the bonnet open. In real-world driving conditions, the difference is significant.
Fully Sealed Design
The Infinity Design intake features lower inlet air duct housings meticulously designed to fit directly into the two large factory air inlet ducts, creating a perfect seal that maintains ambient intake temperatures at all times. The upper section comprises two venturi tubes with integrated MAF housings that smooth airflow, improve throttle response, and increase power output. The less the engine has to work drawing in air, the more power it can generate.
Bespoke High-Flow Filtration
At the heart of the system is a bespoke short-stack, high-surface-area filter - larger than any cone filter currently on the market with a massive 170mm (6¾") opening. Positioned in front of the inlet tube to achieve the largest possible velocity stack, the filter redirects airflow towards the outer walls to maximise efficiency. Both in-house and independent testing confirms intake temperatures equivalent to the OEM system - matching outside ambient air temperature at all times.
Proven Performance Gains
Dyno tested under strict controlled conditions on an independent Dynojet dynamometer, delivering honest, real-world results:
- 12-15 HP gain at high RPM where the OEM intake becomes restrictive
